The National Rifle Association not only advocates the right to keep and bear arms, but actively champions gun safety, education and training. The organization's expansive footprint touches nearly every group — law enforcement, military, hunters, marksmen, youth and women.
Jim Porter previously served as second vice president of the NRA. Elected to the NRA Board of Directors in 2009, Porter serves as chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee; chairman of the Committee on Hearings; and vice chairman of the Finance Committee. He is also a member of the President's Committee on Advancement; the Meeting Site Selection Committee; and the Task Force on Industry Relations.
Porter was a founding member, past president and current member of the NRA Foundation Board of Trustees. He also serves as a trustee for the NRA Special Contribution Fund for the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund.
Porter is a long-time NRA Life member, an ardent supporter of the Second Amendment, and a practicing attorney and president of Porter, Porter & Hassinger, PC. Porter served on the Alabama Trust Fund Board, the Forever Wild Land Trust Board and the Governor's Conservation Advisory Board. Porter is also chairman of the American Firearms and Shooting Foundation and serves as vice president of the Alabama Rifle and Pistol Association.
He is a graduate of the University of Alabama and the Cumberland School of Law of Stamford University.
