Approximately 10,500 Third Model Dragoons were made at Hartford from
1851 to 1861. Dragoons were the
gun to have during the Gold Rush era. They were so popular out west, in fact,
that you could buy one on the east coast for $20, head west and — if you didn’t
strike gold in California — you could sell it for $200.
These Colt Third Dragoons can be seen at the NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia.
