William Hawken's Rifle

This full-stock percussion conversion rifle in .43 caliber was made by William Hawken who practiced his trade in Hagerstown, Maryland around 1840. This piece shows the transition from the eastern Kentucky style of rifle to western half-stock or Plains rifle. William Hawken's rifle can be found seen at the NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia.
